Airport Community Roundtable Essays

During the June 7th 2017 Airport Community Roundtable, airport representative Stuart Hair stated the ACR members were selected by several criteria; one of which was comparison of ‘essays’ provided by the applicants.

Point of fact; there was/is no ‘essay’ requirement. What Mr. Hair was referring to was the bottom form field titled  Questions/Comments.

Below are the contents from that field as supplied by the applicants that were accepted and are now members of the ACR. I’m not including personal identifying information about any of the applicants. That information is available by filing a North Carolina Open Records Request here. The meeting Agendas, Presentations, Summary Minutes and Meeting Recordings can be accessed here.

I’ve lived in my home for 12 years and have seen the increased air traffic over that period. I’m interested in solutions to problem, not just complaining about it.

It would be an honor to serve. I can’t speak for everyone, but I can speak to my network, and am influential. Communication is a key to understanding. I am a Advanced Communicator with Toastmasters International, and have M.S. Degree in Engineering. I’ve worked in Aerospace Field, and in a Corporate University setting, in Organizational Development and understand Change Leadership. Besides that I love to work with people to find a positive outcome, and currently run a successful business in Charlotte that helps local companies grow.

To help improve quality of life for Charlotte – Mecklenburg residents without damaging the airport authority revenues.

==============================================================

Our family of 6 has been affected by recent changes in flight paths.  I have experience in business, law and logistics.

Have lived in CLT 31 years; worked for Mecklenburg County 29 years. Currently serve on Park & Rec Commission. Reside in Mountainbrook near Southpark, newly impacted by Nextgen departure changes.

I have been a member of the Charlotte community for almost 20 years, and a  homeowner in the Northwest corridor for 16 years.  I believe Charlotte is a great city that offers a good quality of life.  I’ve reached out to the FAA as well as representatives of Charlotte-Douglas as I’ve noticed that air traffic noise has greatly increased in my area.  If there is anything I can do to serve my neighbors to get better understanding of the change in air traffic patterns or possibly help to come a compromise, I’m willing to do that.

I would like to relay info regarding the increase in jet noise over the Olde Whitehall and surrounding neighborhoods. I would also like info on mitigation services as well.

Thirty year resident of Charlotte who loves the city. I am very concerned about the increasing aircraft noise over my neighborhood so I have emailed with Mr. Cagle and Mr. Hennessey. I feel if we as citizens do not speak up and be willing to participate to bring about solutions then we should not complain. I am a positive, MBA educated, empty nester who would love to help find win/win solutions for our city.

==============================================================

I was born in Charlotte in 1955 and have lived in the city for most of my life.  I have seen the city grow along with the airport.  I appreciate both the economic prosperity as well as the impact on the quality of life resulting from the tremendous growth.  I desire to participate in finding balanced solutions to the negative effects of noise resulting from the ever increasing air traffic.

As VP of Overlook HOA, a 412 home subdivision, I would like to be a partner with FAA to find solutions for aircraft noise at the Charlotte Airport. My Masters in Urban/Regional Planning might be of benefit in making Charlotte both attractive to future business and co-existing with current residents.

==============================================================

My neighborhood is directly affected by airport noise.  However, I am also a frequent user of CLT and appreciate the convenience and numerous flight options.  I am interested in becoming more knowledgeable of the airport and its operations so I can intelligently advocate for both our communities and the airport.

Over the last 50 years, I have witness the incredible growth of our “local” airport.  As a business owner I can attest to the value of an airport of this caliber.  And as a homeowner, landowner and landlord I can attest to the financial impact of flight noise zones.

I am a 6 year resident of Davidson and have served on it Livability Board, as well as regularly volunteering now with Ada Jenkins, DCPC, and the college. I am committed to the town’s core principles and greatly value the quality of life we enjoy in Davidson.

I am a very active citizen of the Mt Holly Community in Gaston Co., VP at the Mt Holly Community Garden and PTA Board member. I am fully committed to making our city better place to be. I am excited for the possibilty to work as a team to troubleshoot one of our our community’s biggest issues, air traffic noise.  Living directly under a flight path, I personally have been impacted and would love the opportunity to give improtant, honest feedback to help create a positve solution for all involved.  Contact me anytime to discuss 704-898-7300.

Spoken to countless residents in my neighborhood and around lake Norman about the plane noise and as someone who works in strategy I think I can help

==============================================================

I have been a resident in the airport area for over thirty-five years.  I’ve seen and felt the growth of the airport industry. Unfortunately,  I’ve also experienced the noise from the aircrafts for too many years.  Many contacts with airport officials have also been made over the years in this regard.  I would like to serve on this committee as I am committed to my neighborhood and surrounding area.

==============================================================

I am an active member of the town of Pineville, sitting on the Planning & Zoning Board. I have represented the town as a member of the CMS Board of Education. I pastor a church near the airport which makes me aware of noise and neighborhood issues surrounding the airport.

I moved to the Giverny neighbordhood in Southpark/Charlotte in late 2001. I am the original owner of my home. I love Charlotte and have been involved in several initiatives, most notably creating The Patriot Gala, the first Charlotte fundraiser for military wounded, in 2006. Our original efforts helped grow the USO in the CLT Douglas airport. I grew up in Germany, where my father founded and operated the first air charter company for GI’s stationed there. Unsold seats from TWA and PanAm were sold to the military and their dependents at deep discounts. Our social circle was the airline industry. I have always loved the quiet and solitude of my property that is flanked by a creek and lots of trees. It has been one of the greatest assets of my purchase. Recently that changed with overhead noise at waking up and going to sleep hours. It was alarming and I left complaints. There is also a pretty active Next Door thread in our community about it. Clearly some are being impacted by this much more than others. It would be my pleasure to serve on this roundtable and since I own my own business, I will be available for meetings.

==============================================================

I travel out of CLT many times a year and have a strong interest in its growth and success.  I believe the airport is crucial for the overall progress of Charlotte, Matthews and surrounding area.  And I believe that my perspective as a frequent flyer and my son being a pilot is a plus, and my being a long-time resident of Matthews.

==============================================================

I have committed to my neighborhood by organizing different groups and contributing to the betterment of my surrounding neighborhoods and the City of Charlotte.  I’m currently the President of the neighborhood  association.  With Charlotte Douglas being the 5th busiest airport in the nation, operated by the City of Charlotte I feel a great interest in the future.  I also feel citizens should be part of the solutions not the problems.

The ACR is a perfect opportunity to utilize the skills I have been fortunate to gain during my tenure as President of the Farmcreat Community Neighborhood Association and apply those skills to an area of growing interest for our city as we continue to develop communities near the CLT airport

As a retired American Airlines Captain (Sept 2015) that was based in Charlotte since 1992 I have a working knowledge of Charlotte’s air traffic control and ground control operations.  During my 36-year airline career I flew domestic and international routes and are familiar with the FAA.  My experience offers a unique perspective.
